Get in Touch With Your Creative Side on Your Dauphin Island Vacation

Nature is one of the most inspiring muses. Artists have long been moved by breathtaking natural scenes to create works of art. In our opinion, Dauphin Island is the perfect place to inspire such creativity.

In addition to exploring the island’s natural beauty, which most tourists come to do, we encourage you to also take some time to appreciate local area artists. With various events, classes, and galleries around the island, it is an excellent opportunity to learn more about local culture and make new acquaintances. Who knows? Exploring the fine arts in Dauphin Island and getting to know the locals might be one of your trip’s highlights!

About Dauphin Island Heritage and Arts Council

The Dauphin Island Heritage and Arts Council (DIHAC) is the best place to start. DIHAC is a local charitable organization that provides venues for educational arts programs, exhibits, shows, and performances, all emphasizing the heritage and history of the Gulf Coast.

Their programs include free art classes for school students, the Dauphin Island Gallery, the Native American Festival, Creative Monday, adult art classes (for every skill level), and Last Friday Art Night.

Events and Classes

At the annual Dauphin Island Native American Festival, historians and storytellers exhibit 18th century Creek hunting and fishing camps. This event brings to life the era in which local Creeks traded with the French, who made port on Dauphin Island in 1699. The festival features an exhibition of authentic Creek clothing and hands-on demonstrations of Native American arts and crafts. Attendees can even participate in traditional Native American recreational activities, such as stomp dancing and stickball.

Regular events include Last Friday Art Night and Creative Monday. Creative Monday gives participants the chance to unleash their artistic side. For a minimal fee, guests receive all the supplies they need to participate in the week’s themed activity. It is an excellent opportunity to make friends and have fun. Likewise, Last Friday Art Night brings the community together, often at a local restaurant, for live music and art displays.

If you are interested in learning a particular skill, check out the DIHAC events calendar for an updated list of their adult classes for all levels.

Art Does It

This local, artist-run gallery provides a variety of services to the community. From art exhibitions to summer youth art camps, there is always something happening. They offer workshops for a variety of art forms to the community. Check out their Facebook page to see their upcoming events!
