Ways to Cool Off in the Alabama Heat – Indoor Activities & Attractions Near Dauphin Island

Why come to Dauphin Island? For many, it’s the allure of white, sandy beaches and turquoise water. Others are attracted by the island’s incredible biodiversity and come for birdwatching, fishing, or to spot nesting sea turtles. But during the island’s hottest months, when many tourists are on vacation, we know you will be searching for indoor activities as well.

Explore the Dauphin Island Sea Lab & Estuarium

One of the highlights of any trip to Dauphin Island is the opportunity to experience its incredible biodiversity. The Estuarium at Dauphin Island Sea Lab is the perfect place to learn more about the four key habitats of coastal Alabama and the wildlife native to the region. The facility has 31 aquariums with more than 100 species on display.

There are several events open to the public, including the bi-weekly, free Boardwalk Talk. Visitors are invited to engage with experts at the Sea Lab on topics ranging from climate change to shark habitats and everything in between. The Summer Excursion program brings visitors directly into the habitats being studied by the experts at Sea Lab, giving you a first-hand learning experience.
