The decks are where Whale of a Tale truly shines. The freshly stained upper deck offers sweeping Gulf views with two outdoor dining tables, a cushioned settee, and lounge chairs — perfect for morning coffee or alfresco dining. The lower deck features a comfortable outdoor sectional for more laid-back lounging.

Beach toys and floats are generally available, and an outdoor shower lets you rinse off before heading back inside. The Gulf shoreline is just steps away via the back deck stairs.

Location & Getting Here
Located on the quiet west end of Dauphin Island, Whale of a Tale sits just steps from the Gulf shoreline where you can relax and play. The west end public beach is approximately half a mile away — an easy walk with beautiful sunset views along the way.
Dauphin Island is a wonderfully remote destination, which is a big part of its charm. We recommend doing a grocery pickup in Mobile (Walmart or similar) before heading over, as on-island grocery options are limited. There are some great local spots to eat during your stay!

Please note: The home requires a flight of stairs to reach the main entrance — there is no elevator or lift. Plan accordingly when packing.

Rental Policies
• Primary renter must be 25 years of age or older and present for the entire stay
• Maximum occupancy: 14 guests
• No parties or events permitted
• Saturday-to-Saturday reservations required during peak summer season
• ADSFR Fishing Rodeo weekly rentals only

Additional Charges
Cleaning fee, 13% lodging tax, non-refundable reservation fee, damage waiver, and optional travel insurance apply.

"We had a very relaxing week at the beach! the home was clean, beautiful and plenty of room for all of us. The kitchen was well stocked with plenty of dishes and cookware. we hope to stay again!

"Excellent place for multiple families to unwind and enjoy the beach in a peaceful manner! House was easy to maintain during our stay with plenty of household items like linens and kitchen items. The outdoor shower and hose made it super simple to hose kids off before entering the house. Quick drive to get some local ice cream and the fort was a cool experience too! Host was great to work with! Thank you!

"Nice floor plan. The kitchen had the best utensils and starter items that we've ever had. The bedrooms were roomy with excellent linens. Plenty of bath linens. Our family loved this place and want to come back. My step daughter said it was the best vacation place she's ever stayed. The Gulf being just a few yards away and the bay inlet on the other side the grand kids wanted to stay longer. THe 5 year old wanted to stay forever. We've stayed at several areas in past years but, Whale of a Tail is at the top of our stays!

"Our family had a great visit at "whale of the tale". The house was spotless and we all felt right at home. Proximity to the beach was a 10/10. The management company had great communication with clear check in and check out instructions. We had a bad storm roll in that knocked power out to the whole island while staying here. Before I could even reach out to the management company to see about an ETA on power restoration they reached out to me to touch base. Would recommend and hope to return next year!

"Rental company is very friendly, responsive and overall would book with them again on their other properties as well. Any concerns or questions I had they were quick to respond or offer a remedy! The location is so wonderful, peaceful and a perfect place to just rest and reset with the family before school starts again. Highly suggest doing a Walmart Pickup order in Mobile before heading any further as island prices can get costly. Lots of fun local places to eat.

"This place was perfect for our week-long family vacay (party of 10). Right on the beach with plenty of sleeping and visiting space. About .5 mile from the public beach, so easily walkable for amazing sunset views (though, you have a great view from the front porch). Plenty of beds and bathrooms. The two decks were great for hanging out with more than one option for all the people we had there. There was everything you could need in the kitchen for cooking including the most common spices. Plenty of towels in each of the bathrooms and kitchen. May want to bring beach towels.

"We had a wonderful time. The house had plenty of seating for the group we had, in addition the kitchen was stocked with plenty of utensils/plates and cups for the group. We had a few issues and ACP responded and came same day to fix/address the issues. Was impressed with the communication. We enjoyed the short walk to the beach and the beautiful views. The deck was a hit for the group. Covered with seating for all. Will definitely come back and stay here again.

"We had the best week at Dauphin Island. Whale of a Tale was a beautiful beach house that accommodated our family perfectly. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was stocked with plenty of pots/pans to cook meals and the washer and dryer was so helpful keeping up with our laundry. The back deck was our favorite part. So relaxing. We spent most of our time on the porch and right down the steps at the beach. We loved Whale of a Tale and can’t wait for our next trip back .

"There were 11 (one a toddler) of us in this house for a week and we all plenty of room. We all loved the fact that each bedroom had it’s own private bathroom. The kitchen was well stocked and the owners have provided internet in case you need to work remotely. The beach is just a few steps off the stairs from the back deck. This was our first visit to Dauphin Island and it is very remote. No grocery store and not many restaurants. We cooked in a few nights which is the best way to go for dinner here. I highly recommend this house for your next stay! The only drawback to this house is that there is no lift for your luggage or groceries. You have to carry everything up a flight of stairs to the front door. We still loved the house though.

"Beautiful house located nearly on the gulf with the water a few steps away. Well worth the money. The deck is amazing! Only thing to note is that there is a new house being built to the left of the house which partially blocks the view of the gulf. This is not reflected in some of the pictures. You still have a view through the two houses on the left and right of property, plus the wonderful sounds of the waves. We would stay here again.

"Everything about this house was fantastic! We had everything we needed and the house was located exactly where we wanted to be. We've been visiting Dauphin Island for 50 years and have rented from various real estate companies. Our last three visits over the past 10 months have been with ACP Vacation Rentals and they are definitely the best on the island! We will absolutely rent from ACP for all future visits.

"Beautiful and spacious house on the west end of Dauphin Island. It was super clean and had most everything we could ask for! We loved having an upper and lower deck and the 2 king sized beds. It was perfect for our family and we plan to stay again next year. I really enjoyed chatting with Amy in the ACP office, as well, and feel like I made a fast friend. This company couldn't have been more hospitable!
