Free Family Movie Nights
West End Beach hosts free family movie nights throughout the summer. It’s a warm and welcome way to take advantage of the beautiful area and get out of your Dauphin Island Holiday Isle condos for a little bit.
Enjoy the summer air, some popcorn, and a fun movie with the whole family at this fantastic summer event.
The 2019 series will include more than two dozen movie nights that primarily take place on Thursday and Friday evenings. The movies begin running at the end of May and go through the first week of September. Flicks on this year’s list include The Secret Life of Pets, Jaws, and ET. Free family movie night visitors are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets, but pets, grills, and glass needs to stay at home. There are also on-site snack vendors. The movies start at dusk but are subject to the weather.
Sunset Concert Series
The Sunset Concert Series on Dauphin Island runs this season from May 5 – October 13. These concerts are on Sundays at West End Beach which is one of the most popular beaches in Dauphin Island. It’s a wonderful spot to take in all the beauty the area has to offer and to listen to some live music to help you kick back and relax. Concerts generally begin about an hour and a half before the sun goes down, and guests are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs to relax on. Admission is $5 a person.
Thunder on the Bay
Thunder on the Bay is one of Dauphin Island’s best annual events. It provides a great look at the history of Dauphin Island. Happening this year on April 27 and April 28 it’s the 155th Battle of Mobile Bay. The event is a highlight of Fort Gaines role in the historic battle. Head out to experience a living history lesson and learn more about the area. There will be live music, blacksmithing events, and even reenactments of the battle and the surrender. Saturday at 2 p.m. will be the Battle of Mobile Bay reenactment, while the surrender ceremony will take place at 3:30. Finally, see a Tactical Battle reenactment Sunday at 1 p.m. The whole event series takes place at Dauphin Island Park and Beach, open to history buffs of all ages.
Other Events
Of course, this isn’t all there is to do on Dauphin Island during the summer months. If you’re in town for Memorial Day, there’s a ceremony at 11 a.m. at the DI Water Town Park to honor local veterans. On Jun 15th the 3rd annual Sunset Cruise Car Show will take place at Green Park from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Finally, if you’re in town for the Dauphin Island 4th of July celebration, you won’t want to miss out on all the fun events planned for the celebration of the birth of our country.
