Dear Residents, Property Owners and Interested Parties

Re Shoreline Restoration Informational Meeting

There will be an informational meeting on April 13, 2011 at 6:30pm for a proposed Shoreline Restoration Project along the southern coastline of Dauphin Island. This meeting will be held at the Richard C. Shelby Building located at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab. Dr. Scott Douglass, Coastal Engineer for the Town, will be on hand to present the results of the study/design phase of the work. In addition, representatives with ADEM, Fish & Wildlife, State Lands Division, Revenue Search Committee, Town Attorney and more will also be present to assist with the question and answer session of the meeting.

As Mayor, and as a lifelong resident myself, I encourage you to attend this meeting in order to better understand the project itself, its associated costs and possible funding sources, environmental permitting process, legal aspects (ex. Public access, what happens to current submerged properties when/if they are “restored” post project?, establishment of a “permanent mean high tide line” and what that means, etc…). This forum is intended to be very informative and should provide critical information and data necessary for the community to make a decision about shoreline restoration in the future.
