Robin's Blog for Dauphin Island

Have you thought, "I'd like to do something, I just don't know what."?

Dear Robin,

The Gulf Coast is in jeapordy of becoming an area, in our wildest nightmares, we wouldn't have imagined. If we are not horribly affected here in the Mobile Bay area (let's keep hoping), then our neighbors East and West will be. Oil has started showing up on our shores and in the Estuaries. Tourism is shutting down. The economic impact has such ripples that many imagine our whole economy will be severly crippled. BP, the Federal and State governments are exploring many avenues, but everyone seems focused on the "big picture." That is a good and responsible focus. But what about the indivdual property owner who has sea turtles nesting on their property? What about the small municipalites such as Bayou la Batre and Point Clear who are seeking solutions to the soiling of their environment?

If there are those of you who have asked, "But what can I do?" we would like to let you know of a wonderful opportunity as well as a fun time on Thursday, May 13 at 4:00 p.m.

(The Mobile Chapter WCR President has approved this message.)

Save our Coast - Hair Boom Party

  • We have hair and fur from around the world!
  • We have pantyhose from Hanes, Inc., individuals and groups throughout the U. S.
  • We have stations to make the booms easily and quickly.

What else do we need?

You!

Please join us Thursday, May 13 at 4:00 p.m.at the Swamp Room, under Felix's Restaurant for a Party for the Coast!

We will be making hair booms as a local efforts to assist in the cleanup. Each boom can absorb more than a quart of oil. With over 200,000 gallons per day spewing out from the leak, we need a lot of booms!

Come, have a good time, and support this great cause. Share this with EVERYONE you know! It's a fun time at Felix's and a great cause to support!
