Alabama DPS and Alabama National Guard opens credentialing centers

Mobile - The Alabama Department of Public Safety wants to ensure contractors working in Alabama responding to the Deep Water Response Oil Spill have the proper credentials. DPS in conjunction with the Alabama National Guard have established credentialing centers. The Alabama Department of Environmental Management and BP representatives are aware of this process and are notifying contractors. The centers are located at the following address:

Baldwin County

Old Outcast Marina

27557 Larry C Kelly Lane

Orange Beach, Al 36561

Hours of Operation: 7:00am to 4:00pm

Mobile County

Dauphin Island Town Hall

1011 Bienville Blvd

Dauphin Island, Alabama

Hours of Operation: 7:00am to 7:00pm

The Alabama National Guard has three guardsmen stationed at each of the credentialing centers to assist DPS with security and traffic. The guardsmen are armed; however they are there solely in a support role. Currently, credentialing is not required to work in Alabama as a result of the oil spill, however if the oil comes ashore state issued badges will be required. The credentialing centers opened on Sunday May 16, 2010. Contractors will need to show one of the following forms of identification to receive their credentials: state issued driver license or I.D. card, military I.D. card, US Passport and for foreign nationals, country issued passport and I-94 showing they are authorized to be in the United States.

The Alabama Department of Environmental Management is the lead agency for the state’s response to the oil spill under the Unified Command. ADEM is coordinating efforts for a wide range of state agencies that are involved in responding to the situation. Additional information and updates regarding the oil spill and Alabama’s response may be obtained at www.adem.alabama.gov
