Even on Labor Day, Town staff were on the job making more progress on the recovery process. Public Works crews focused resources on clearing the west end side streets today, two days after Bienville Blvd was cleared of sand. Attention will then shift to private driveways (at least those portions within the Bienville Blvd rights-of-way) to expedite access to homes along the west end. Standing water on Bienville Blvd was being pumped out to reduce flooding over the roadway. Town Hall was open 8AM-4PM today for the convenience of residents in need of permits and those needing absentee ballots for the election on September 11, 2012. Police & Public Safety personnel continue to monitor the checkpoint at Raphael Semmes to ensure access by property owners, contractors and utility companies remains safe for all. Spoke with an Alabama Power Company official this morning and they plan to send multiple crews in the morning to try and restore electricity to most homes in the effected area asap. DI Water & Sewer personnel are working daily to restore services as well, although residents should continue to boil water on most of the west end for the next day or two. Spent much of the morning with Public Works Supt. Corey Moore identifying Town properties damaged by Isaac for State EMA officials. Working on a plan to provide additional dumpsters (for use by all property owners) to dispose of hurricane debris such as limbs, etc. A revised dumpster schedule will be developed and advertised as soon as details are known.
